What if it’s real?

As you will know, if you’ve read many of my spirituality articles, I am currently studying accounts of near-death experiences (NDEs). I’ve found them to be a stunning and beautiful way of learning about God, far more effective for me than reading a Bible.

Some of the most disturbing NDE accounts to listen to are not the ones about distressing NDEs or supposed visits to Hell. No, I find the most disturbing ones to listen to are those told by victims of child abuse. Despite their disturbing nature, there is still beauty in them and something to learn and ponder in them.

A few weeks ago I listened to an account that was meant to teach the experiencer about forgiveness. The experiencer came to realize that, to progress on her spiritual path, she would have to learn to forgive the person who had abused her.

The one I listened to yesterday was more concerned with comforting the victim of abuse and assuring the child that he was not alone in it.
