That guy was being an ass. Reading for a read is a nice thing to do if you have the time. If you don't have the time, and his work doesn't interest you, you aren't obligated to continue following him, especially if he has gained his one hundred followers.

You aren't his target audience. He needs to wake up and realize that.

As far as I'm concerned, you're within your rights to unfollow him. You've been doing him the courtesy of remaining a follower of his to this point, but I say that no follower should have to put up with whining and rudeness.
