My problem was always that I felt my mother didn't want to have to hear me practice, because piano practice--real practice--sounds very repetitive and boring if you're not the person actually at the keyboard playing the same one measure over and over until you get it right.

I didn't want to annoy her--and I admit that I too found the very repetitive practice boring.

It wasn't until I met a friend of mine, who is a professional violinist, that understood how very necessary the muscle memory repetition and how correct repetition trains your brain to consistently play correctly.
