I quite agree. My sister gave birth to my niece and nephew in a Catholic hospital, but she could not get her tubes tied there, when it would have been less expensive and easy to do immediately after delivery. No, she had to wait a few weeks and have the procedure done at a different hospital--where they had to make another incision to access her Fallopian tubes. Ridiculous of them to not allow a contraception procedure to be done on a mother who has already borne two children.
Re signing the document--I agree with you. Until the baby is fully born the mother is the patient, not so much the baby. And why the heck was a nun giving a new mother anti-abortion literature? Clearly you didn't need it. I'd have been like, "Sister, don't you think you're wasting your time preaching to the choir? These need to go to people who are not in this hospital. Now please leave."
